Playing a new video game is often pretty intimidating some times, especially when it comes to messing things up for other gamers. When playing online, making mistakes isn't like when playing a single player game at home. Now your mistakes effect others as well. But don't let a fear of making mistakes stop you from enjoying online gaming. This article will teach you everything you need to know and give you the knowledge to become a great online player in any game you choose.
Often times, learning how to play offline can be a very good first step to teaching you the in's and out's of online play. You should definitely read any manuals available that come with the game for additional information. Or else, someone may say to you to "RTFM". Do you know what that acronym stands for? It means "Read The F****** Manual" and when a new gamer comes on and asks questions that are easily answered by reading the manual, expert gamers will use the "RTFM" acronym.
It wouldn't hurt to look up some game walkthroughs or online guides pertaining to your game of choice, prior to jumping into it. Spending even 20 mins reading a guide can differentiate you from a complete newbie to a player that appears to be experienced. And reading forums for your game is definitely a good option. In other words, you're going to need to read up a bit. Some of the information you would need to look up would be, how to create, control, and equip your character with the best kinds of gear, and general strategies for playing in the game of your choice. Your gaming peers will definitely appreciate it if you take the time to research beforehand.
Learning how to play the game is definitely important, but so is learning the games graphical interface. Having an understanding of where everything is located in the game, will speed things up for you, and generally make you a better player, and much more fun to play with. The quickest way to notice a newbie in a game, is to have to wait for them to find a window, or some sort of option in the game when it is completely obvious to everyone where it is.
In certain games, dying can happen quite often, it's best to not let pressure get to you and keep your cool when it does. Sometimes a player can hold up a game, because they are afraid of dying, doing your best and not giving up is one thing, but making a game last extended periods of time when it is clearly over, just takes away from everyone's enjoyment. Sometimes a losing game is just that: a loss. Chalk it up to a loss, start a new round and keep playing. Holding out waiting for a miracle to occur to save you from your impending loss is rarely ever going to happen. Make sure not to wait around hoping something like this will happen, simply allow your character to die and continue playing.
On that note, do not take dying personally, everyone does it, no matter how good you are. Also remember not to take the game to seriously, it is just a game after all. Dying can be a valuable learning experience, make sure you pick up on what exactly you did wrong, and how to avoid that situation in the future. In the end, you will learn many things that will get you killed in the game very easily, learn to avoid these.
Having a slow computer can drastically degrade game play experience, make sure your computer is up to date enough for the game you are playing. Having a fast internet connection is the best option, but unfortunately isn't one for everyone. If you still have a slow connection, be mindful that your experience will suffer because of it. Even with a fast internet connection, having a slow computer will hinder you the moment you enter the game, make sure you meet the minimum system requirements at the least.
Adding a good gaming video card, with a fast processor and a good amount of ram will ensure your PC is ready to tackle your favorite games.
Also something important to take into account is your control setup. If playing a PC game, it's important to have a good keyboard and a gaming mouse with plenty of buttons that will allow you to keybind all your important abilities or weapons. It would also be best to invest in a PC gamepad that is designed to help in the game of your choice. Wireless PC gamepads are available as well to cut down on the wire clutter, and there is no substitute for using a PC steering wheel when playing a racing game. There are PC gamepads available with many buttons that are designed to be used with FPS's, MMO's and RTS games.
Taking these points into account will allow you to go from newbie to pro very quickly and without to much frustration.
And finally, always remember to have fun playing, do not take it to serious, it's just a game...
